Is this going overboard? (Portal 2 analysis)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mz0PvYiHjwE

I'm sure you are all aware that I am a huge fan of Treyarch zombies and all the deciphering they make us do. Well this time I am doing some more deciphering but with a different game.

Well actually most (if not all) of the deciphering for Portal 2 secrets has already been done thus far. (check this video during the static section at 00:37 to see an EE) So I decided I would check out some other videos and see if I could find anything else. At 2:30 in the video above, Wheatley (The comedic guide in Portal 2) attempts to solve a password. However he is doing it the slow but sure way... VERY slow. Well after just finishing a run through on portal and stumbling upon "login:cjohnson password:tier 3" scribbled on the wall I began to wonder if this was perhaps the password (tier 3) he was attempting to solve! So I checked and the amount of characters he listed was 6. Which is an exact match of characters in "tier 3" ... including the space of course. So I searched online for an equation to solve this. However not knowing what an equation like this would be called left me empty handed. That and typing "how many attempts would it take for a 6 digit password to be correct if I was going like aaaaaa - aaaaab" into google didnt bring much up either. So I decided I would figure it out myself!

So first I must assume what characters are included in the password. I went with only letters/numbers and "space". There are 10 numbers, 1 space and 26 letters. Equaling 37 possible entries for each slot.

Here is my notepad I worked on. If you have questions then just ask.

In the above picture A-F represent a different digit. Starting with A on the farthest right. So in this case A=3 B=(sp) C=R D=E E=I and F=T Oh and duh. The answer I got is 1,332,755,717. Yup that many attempts before he would have gotten the right answer. I lol'd. Also if you see an error or I am completely wrong please let me know.

MLB 2K11 $1,000,000 competition!

Last year I found out about a million dollar competition inside a video game! It was to throw a perfect game in MLB 2K10! Now that it is 2011 2k games is back with the same competition!

Before the release of MLB 2k10 I went to every video game selling store to see if they would have a midnight release for the title. Unfortunately none of them were. So I asked around and found out that the Blockbuster was opening the earliest. So as soon as it open I rushed out and rented the game! However it turned out that by the time I had rented it someone already had thrown a perfect game. This year that problem is fixed. The game was released on the 8th of the month giving all participants not only the chance to practice, but to also start at the exact same time. It was only just yesterday that I found out about this and the competition starts on the 1st. I'm still on edge about whether or not I should participate. So what about you? Will you be giving it a shot? To check out details and rules go to the follow link: http://www.2ksports.com/perfectgame

Golden Ticket!

I've got a golden ticket! Well maybe not yet, but I do have a golden twinkle in my eye! And it's all thanks to Kmart Gamer!

A while back during a long night of gaming I was talking with my group about this year's E3 and how I would love to go and discussed how I could possibly get in. Not a second later my friend @NuckFuggets mentioned to me Kmart Gamer. They are going to E3 and taking three bloggers with them! Yes that is correct, the Electronic Entertainment Expo! The place where us gamers have our eyes fixed each year to see what new excitement awaits us! They are looking for people who are active in the gaming community and involved in things such as blogs/podcasts/videos etc. Well I am just that and will tell them exactly why they should pick me!

So first let me start by telling you who I am. My name is Mathew Korn but I go by Telixion in the gaming world. I have been exploring dungeons, ranking up, and slaying bosses since I was a kid. It really has become a huge part of my life and I wouldn't have it any other way. I even met my girlfriend on Call of Duty 4 and have been living with her for two years! I started actively getting involved in the community around 2006. Since then I have been across many forums even becoming an admin for the site WTG (We The Gamerz). I have been talked about on G4's X-Play and have a video here of one of the occurrences. I make videos for Machinima and am one of their directors. I have won a national tournament winning me a VIP trip to Quakecon but I will get into that in a second. Some things that have gotten me a following include my transition videos and my theory to the Treyarch zombie back story. Both of those have honored me with a very great title of Call of Duty VIP. Meaning that I got to play Black Ops and meet/party with the developers/media before the game was out! I feel that experience and the VIP experience I received at Quakecon gives me a huge advantage to just be relaxed and enjoy the event for what it is and not be overwhelmed by it.

Now onto why I would like to go to E3! I have dreamed of going to E3 since I first remembered seeing a preview about it. Watching all of the gaming industry giants come together to show off new games and consoles brings the biggest smile to my face! I have been keeping up to date at who is on the exhibitor list and was very excited (but not surprised) to see deep silver amongst the booths. They are to publish Dead Island. I have been highly looking forward to this game since 2006. It was on hold for a few years, due to finding a publisher, but thanks to Deep Silver we will be hearing/seeing a lot of details on it this year at E3 (Hopefully you will be hearing about it from me)! My friends at Machinima will be having a booth at E3; which I would love to stop by and say hi to those of which I haven't met in person yet. Now I'm not 100% positive that this will happen, but looking at the history I think that it's safe to say we should hear some news about the next Call of Duty game! Perhaps we might hear something of what Bungie is brewing up! More details of the beta for this mystery game have been sent to us but nothing that describes what this game is! I personally would love to see that announcement first hand! Now while most of my time is spent in the FPS genre of gaming it would be a lie to say I don't love other types of genres. Whether its an RTS, puzzle or even a family game like Lego Harry Potter I play them all (I actually really enjoy Lego HP. I've been playing it non stop the past week!) The kinect has put a rather surprisingly good push towards motion gaming. I still have a blast playing Dance Central and am very welcome to see what new games will be brought to kinect!

I'm truly very excited for this year's E3. More so then I have ever been in previous years! To go by myself would be great but being able to go with Kmart Gamer would be an awesome experience I would not want to pass up. Having my thoughts and opinions showcased to the Kmart Gamer audience would be an amazing personal triumph. Kmart Gamer has made a great presence giving us not only entertaining topics in posts but also great deals directly from Kmart (Check them out here) I feel that I would make a perfect fit for the task because of how knowledgeable in games I am. I am a hardcore gamer myself and know what other gamers want to hear. It has been year after year of watching E3 articles of people interested in only popular titles like CoD or Halo that the other titles end up getting completely uninteresting or irrelevant interview questions. I promise that if I was able to go to this event that what I bring back will only excite you more! Again I would do anything for this opportunity and would love to go with Kmart Gamer!

Thanks for your time,

Mathew Korn - Telixion

Avatar Item Contest (Over)

I would like to thank you all for being awesome followers. I really appreciate all the support and comments you guys leave for things I do and videos I make! So in return I have some Avatar Items to give away. (I know its not much but I want you guys to have them!) (Also sorry PS3 guys/girls. As soon as I get ahold of any PS3 items I will gladly hand them over to you!)

I personally don't like the giveaways that just throw the code out there. I think its unfair and in the ones with question marks just comes down to luck. So I will do some different tasks!

SPRING TREE -

Like the planting of a tree and growth of nature I want you to spread knowledge of this giveaway. Go to my twitter and retweet my tweet that brought you here. Or if you want to tweet it in your own words do so and include a link to here and "@Telixion" in it so that I can find your tweet. I choose a random winner. I guess this is one of those that I said I don't like because it just comes down to luck but oh well. I think its fitting for the item, lol!

Soccer Ball -

I used to play soccer as a kid and did so for about 6 years. If I had a team I would probably still be playing it now. So for this one I want you to tell me what sport/activity/hobby you used to do as a kid - or even now! (This includes videos games - although a sport or something else would be cool!) If you would like to include pics of a trophy or anything please feel free to! Just leave a comment below or tweet my twitter and I will choose one!

Balloon Rocket -

For this item tell me what your dreams were growing up! What you wanted to be or do. Again just leave me a comment here or tweet me your response. My dreams have changed a lot since growing up (like most do). I had huge fascination with dinosaurs. I used to want to go and find fossils! I remember one year I asked Santa for a baby triceratops and was very upset to see I got a little toy one. I figured it was my fault I wasn't specific enough to ask for a "real" baby triceratops. Told myself next year I would be more specific! lol. Without going into as much more detail on my other dreams I have had wanted to become a film editor and a game designer.

Guitar -

I haven't personally gotten into playing the guitar. I mean I have messed around with one every now and again but never really learned to get good at it (Guitar hero is a whole different story). I did play piano and love playing it. Think its a beautiful instrument. So for this contest tell me a song that you love. Your favorite song! I will choose the one that I feel is awesome and indeed a great song.

So those are the items and what you have to do for them. I might have another really special one to giveaway so don't think you are out of luck if you are not chosen for one of these. Again just leave a comment here or reply to me on twitter with your answers or if you have a question!

The contest will end tomorrow at 6pm PST. Thanks for being great followers!

Scrolls

After an hour of playing some Minecraft earlier I though I would stop by the developer's blog -The Word of Notch - and see what he had to post. A lot of it was talk about the recent Game Developers Conference; however one post of his stood out like diamonds to my eye!

We also announced our new game today!

That new game is called Scrolls. Not too much information is out on it yet but the basics of what it will be is!

The game we envisioned had elements from the collectible card game genre as well as from traditional board games.

I am not too sure about you but I grew up playing both TCG's (Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, MTG) and board games (Chess,Chess,Chess). So this title is definitely something that appeals to me! I am getting a vibe that it will be similar to Final Fantasy Tactics.

Notch stated that Mojang will release an alpha version of it as soon as they can. Which, if it was anything like what they did with Minecraft, would be a good idea to pick-up/purchase sooner rather than later! So why don't you check the Scrolls site out and let me know if this is something you would be interested in!

Find Makarov

It was about a week ago that everyone heard whispers of this Find Makarov site. All it showed however was a countdown. But to those of us who have played any of the Modern Warfare games we instantly knew it was related. What with Makarov being the objective bad guy of the series. Also the audio style image and font was a big giveaway. So what does this mean? Could this be a sort of marketing website by Activision to reveal Modern Warfare 3?

Well that wait is now over and we have reached the end of the countdown. Giving us this video!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLmsiaN5dZM

Now while it looks cool (and it does), let me also explain that this is all fan made. It is not an official trailer. Some giveaways to that are the tags of the video. And also that this video is on some completely random channel? WCPToronto? WPC=We Can Pretend. Let me go and say this though, PLEASE people if you are not official. JUST SAY SO. You are just making more enemies trying to pretend that you are the real deal. Now if they were to perhaps come out and say hey we are fans and check this out. Than we would be like! Oh damn! Because really its a very well made trailer. But if you scroll through the comments of the video you can see the CoD fan boys trolling at their best.

So what do you think of it?

Two sides to a story

So a few days ago this video got spread around of this ridiculous 501 kill 8 death game of demolition on Havana. For those of you who have not seen it yet please take the time to view a copy of the video (Original is now set to private) at this link here (Just ignore the commentary because he is naive and is quick to blame developers).
So if you saw it you were like. Holy crap that was awesome! And to be honest it really was. Must have taken a lot of time and effort to come up with a strategy to pull this off. Or perhaps they got that very detailed app showing the spawn locations of every map and gamemode. Well regardless not everything you see is the complete truth.

That is why I am very proud to present to you the following video! Which of course is not mine but that doesn't mean I'm not proud to spread around!

VIDEO WAS TAKEN DOWN BY USER

So what is your take on boosters? I personally think things like this are fine. No I don't mean that they should get away without the truth being told. But the video was still impressive regardless of if it was fake or not. So go ahead and tell me in the comments below your opinion!
So recently I have gotten back into competitive gaming via Game Battles. I have done competitive gaming in the past but always find myself coming back to being a casual gamer. Some reasons for that go into personal friendship problems (need to have a team) or just lack of interest in it all together. Well now I am getting back into it and am really enjoying it.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying one is better than the other. I actually really enjoy just playing a game to enjoy its story or gameplay or whatever! Xbox live arcade games did a winter promotion for three different titles.
ilomilo
A World for Keflings
Raskulls
I really enjoyed all three of those games and would love some DLC to be brought to them! I mean seriously look at how cute this is!

However when you are engaging in competitive gaming and are wanting to do good (WIN!!!), than you need to put all your focus into it. Like people have told you before: Practice, Practice, Practice! It can be a huge change from dominating public games to going against an organized team. For some it can be discouraging but just keep at it. I have now gotten to the point where if I lose during an official match I don't get all worked up over it. It is hard to do but once you can get past that it really helps you learn that you can improve and grow from that experience.

Over the next few weeks I plan on adding posts here to help you with competitive gaming. All of my advice will be based on the MLG variant for Call of Duty: Black Ops. I am hoping that it will help you guys out. Also if you do competitive gaming yourself I would love for you to comment and give your advice! Basically this will be my personal trails, a sort of how I'm doing status update, while also giving advice for those out there adventuring into the competitive realm!

So tell me how do you play your games?

Monday Night Combat Fantage!

Back in august Uber Entertainment released a new twist to first person shooter (FPS) games with Monday Night Combat! It had different classes to choose from each with its own unique style. You then could level up the class you chose during a game making them more unstoppable with new skills and abilities! All in hopes of taken down the enemy teams Money Ball! And to top it off it came with a very nice and comfortable control set up (Which in my opinion makes or breaks a game)! Basically it was all full of awesome! Well since the release the developers have been passionate and very supportive with the community on making it a great experience for everyone. It is rare to see so much community involvement these days and Uber does a great job at it!

I had just picked up my HD PVR around the time this game came out and was not shy to use it. I must have had about 70 games of some pretty sick gameplay stored on my computer for a while just sitting there. Well I didnt really have anything I could do with them until last december when they hosted Smedley's Video Medley Contest. All that was required for entry was to submit some awesome gameplay footage for a trailer they were going to make! Now as a professional contest winner I could not pass this opportunity up! And well.. to not spoil it for you check out the following video!

I managed to get the last shot in! Whoot! Well anyways give your feedback in the comments and let me know what you think!
