I'm sure you are all aware that I am a huge fan of Treyarch zombies and all the deciphering they make us do. Well this time I am doing some more deciphering but with a different game.
Well actually most (if not all) of the deciphering for Portal 2 secrets has already been done thus far. (check this video during the static section at 00:37 to see an EE) So I decided I would check out some other videos and see if I could find anything else. At 2:30 in the video above, Wheatley (The comedic guide in Portal 2) attempts to solve a password. However he is doing it the slow but sure way... VERY slow. Well after just finishing a run through on portal and stumbling upon "login:cjohnson password:tier 3" scribbled on the wall I began to wonder if this was perhaps the password (tier 3) he was attempting to solve! So I checked and the amount of characters he listed was 6. Which is an exact match of characters in "tier 3" ... including the space of course. So I searched online for an equation to solve this. However not knowing what an equation like this would be called left me empty handed. That and typing "how many attempts would it take for a 6 digit password to be correct if I was going like aaaaaa - aaaaab" into google didnt bring much up either. So I decided I would figure it out myself!
So first I must assume what characters are included in the password. I went with only letters/numbers and "space". There are 10 numbers, 1 space and 26 letters. Equaling 37 possible entries for each slot.
Here is my notepad I worked on. If you have questions then just ask.
In the above picture A-F represent a different digit. Starting with A on the farthest right. So in this case A=3 B=(sp) C=R D=E E=I and F=T Oh and duh. The answer I got is 1,332,755,717. Yup that many attempts before he would have gotten the right answer. I lol'd. Also if you see an error or I am completely wrong please let me know.
